Why Choose BEQUEST-IL

Earning Your Trust

BEQUEST-IL was founded by Eli Aflalo, who has dedicated his career in public service to the advancement of Israel-Diaspora relations. Arriving in Israel as a 10-year-old immigrant himself, Eli rose to the position of Minister of Immigrant Absorption.

While in government Eli helped to encourage Aliyah by pioneering the passage of the groundbreaking 2009 law exempting new Olim from paying taxes on foreign assets for their first 10 years in Israel. Later, as global Co-Chairman of the Jewish National Fund (JNF) from 2012-2015, Eli organized the first ever funding through JNF of Nefesh B’Nefesh to assist Aliyah in the Galilee and Negev regions.

Eli founded BEQUEST-IL to continue his mission of connecting Jews around the world with their Israeli heritage. BEQUEST-IL streamlines the recovery process for families struggling with the many daunting bureaucratic and legal requirements involved in reclaiming their inheritance.

FAQs

Answers to your questions

WHY WAS I CONTACTED?

Congratulations! Our research has identified you as a potential heir to an abandoned property in Israel such as: parcels of land, financial rights, or stocks and bonds.

HOW MUCH DOES BEQUEST-IL CHARGE?

Our firm works on a simple contingency basis with no upfront costs or obligation to you. We even finance the entire process out of pocket on your behalf. Only once your property has been successfully recovered do we collect a percentage of the value of your reclaimed property.

HOW MUCH IS MY PROPERTY WORTH?

The value of your property is dependent on several factors such as the type of asset involved, location of the asset, and its current status. For example, bonds vs. real estate; agricultural land vs. residential or commercial property; developed land vs. undeveloped plots.

WHAT ARE THE TAX IMPLICATIONS?

Fortunately, Israel no longer has an inheritance tax. However, as with any commercial transaction in Israel, the government is naturally a partner in the process. Our team of legal experts has years of experience is minimizing the tax exposure of our clients.

HOW LONG IS THE PROCESS?

We strive to expedite your reclamation as much as possible, however the recovery timeframe depends largely on the status of your property and can therefore vary considerably from case to case. Typically, heirs can expect to receive full title of their property within 12 months.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

That’s the best part! BEQUESTIL manages the entire process for you, so you don’t have to (1) collect the necessary legal proof that you are indeed the legitimate heir to the property, (2) navigate the Israeli courts, and (3) contend with the relevant government bureaucracies to reunite with your family legacy and rightful property.

All you need to get started is to engage BEQUESTIL as your agent to recover your inheritance by signing our Reclamation Agreement.

HOW DOES THE RECLAIMATION PROCESS WORK?

Once you engage BEQUESTIL as your agent to recover your inheritance, we assess which court or government department has jurisdiction over the property and how to best recover it. For example, many abandoned properties are supervised by the “Unit for the Location and Restitution of Abandoned Property of the Ministry of Justice.”

Alternatively, some properties many not be managed by the “Guardian General and Director of Inheritance Affairs of the Ministry of Justice” at all, and require special probate orders from the relevant courts.

With real estate, applicants are also required to register with the Israel Land Authority or the Land Registry and pay the applicable management fees before title can be transferred.

HOW CAN I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE UNCLAIMED PROPERTY?

Our research identifies a typical profile of owners of unclaimed property in Israel, mainly small business owners of Jewish origin and Zionist inclinations who moved from Eastern Europe to the USA at the end of the 19th century, and wanted to make a personal contribution to the creation of a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine.

As our client, you receive all of the materials uncovered by our research team, which often include forgotten chapters in your family history beyond the documentation required to reclaim your property.

WHAT IF I WAIT TO FILE A RELEASE APPLICATION?

YOU MAY GET NOTHING!

Recently, the “Guardian General” and “Director of Inheritance Affairs of the Ministry of Justice,” which oversee unclaimed Israeli assets, have sped up the process of permanently transferring ownership of long-abandoned properties to the State. We therefore strongly recommend that all heirs file a Release Application as soon as possible to reduce the risk of such State seizures of their family’s inheritance.

DOES BEQUEST-IL PROVIDE ALL OF THE REQUIRED LEGAL SERVICES?

BEQUEST-IL provides all the necessary legal services for the recovery and realization of unclaimed assets through A.S. Inheritance Law, a niche department within the Aflalo-Sasi Law Firm, founded by Adv. Inbal Aflalo Sasi.

A.S. Inheritance Law is a full-service one-stop shop, that assists English-speaking clients to reclaim abandoned Israeli property belonging to their family. They provide legal assistance in all facets of the asset release process, which may include: representation before the “Unit for Location and Restitution of Unclaimed Property,” filing Release petitions with the Unit on behalf of heirs of absentee owners, handling Israeli inheritance and probate procedures, transferring Israeli title from the absentee owners to the rightful heirs, and representing them in the sale of their recovered assets in Israel.
